Three people from two organisations in Norwich, Norfolk Polonia CIC (Pawel Jelenski) and Future Projects (Leigh Jones and Adelina Campanu), decided to create a simple way to learn by chat. Our idea started accidentally. We had a problem with what to do with people struggling to start conversations in English. They don't want to learn formally in the beginning. They want to stop being afraid to say the first sentence. So here we are. We are here to help.
What is Britspeak in British life?
Well... Imagine if a Brit says, “With the greatest respect”, she/he is not respecting you. In reality, she/he is saying, "I don’t respect you at all.” Basically, this is a britspeak. You can find a nice comparison here. But we want to change this old stereotypes and help you to feel more comfy in the UK!
How it works?
Simple. Please visit our session if you want to learn English (no matter your level). It longs from 45 min to 1.5 hrs. Sit and relax. No notebook is needed. Just listen. A group leader (we are not teachers, just volunteers) chooses a random topic to start a conversation. The group leader is checking if you say sentences correctly, can help you be more open to other people. The more you talk, the more you can get. You can always listen; this is also learning! You can also meet a new friends!
Good to know.
All sessions are free of charge. If you want to help us - join us! We are looking for volunteers who can speak fluently in English or are native speakers.
Currently, we are testing our idea. Soon we will be able to set up main group in The Forum in Norwich, but we want to share our concept everywhere!
Currently, we hold sessions in West Earlham Community Centre every Wednesday (6pm-7.30pm) and Thursdays (6pm-7.30pm).
